So you finally decided to jump into the world of Arena of Valor! It’s an exciting 5v5 Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) where teamwork and strategy reign supreme. But as fun as it looks, it won’t be a walk in the park for beginners. So before you top up Arena of Valor, there are some things you gotta know first as a beginner.
Here is our quick Arena of Valor guide with tips and reminders for those who are just starting. From the basics to some needed newbie advice, we hope you’ll get a nugget of wisdom or two from these tips!
Learn the Basics
Those who have played MOBA game will immediately adjust well to Arena of Valor. But if you’re a total newbie to this genre, the mechanics and gameplay might overwhelm you (and that’s okay, we’re here to help).
Here’s a quick crash course we can share! The map has three lanes: the path going up from the left, the path on the lower right, and the center diagonal path. Each lane will have a tower you must destroy before heading to your opponent’s base.
Heroes are also classified into five roles: ADC or Attack-Damage Carry (typically the Marksman), Dark Slayer (DS), Jungler, Midlaner, and Support. Some heroes can fit in more than one role depending on your strategy. Certain heroes go to a specific lane since they’re more effective there.
The gist is to pick a hero, put them in their lane, and destroy towers to win.
Focus on One Hero First
After getting the hang of things, you might be tempted to try as many heroes as possible. Trying multiple heroes is all well and good at the start. But try to find a couple of heroes who are more your style, focus on their gameplay, and then ‘git gud’. This way, you’ll always have a reliable hero or two in your pocket that you can fall back on.
Read the Info In-Game
This tip might sound obvious, but some Arena of Valor beginners tend to immediately jump into the game without reading anything first. And then they wonder why the build they have for a character isn’t working or why the skill isn’t doing what they thought it would do.
As a newbie, make sure you read skill and equipment descriptions. Read and understand what they can and can’t do. The current UI can give suggestions now, but it’s better if you know why it’s being suggested.
Read, understand, memorize, and apply it to your games.
Ask Questions in AoV Communities
It’s alright if things get overwhelming and confusing. Strategies and terminologies can get a bit much! If you have any questions, joining Arena of Valor online communities is a good idea to get help from veterans of the game. A lot of these communities are very welcoming to newbies and will even have their own Arena of Valor beginner guides to share.
Experience Is the Best Teacher
After all that reading, it’s now time to apply what you’ve learned to a real battle! You’ll always start with AI battles but you’ll soon move to fighting against fellow players.
At this point, your experience will be a harsh but helpful teacher. You’ll be destroyed, trashed, and dunked on, but you can turn that ‘L’ into a learning opportunity by taking notes of what your opponents did. Improvise, adapt, overcome!
